About Gay
Gay G. Gunn is a native of Washington and a product of the D.C Public Schools. She graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in sociology and completed a double minor in psychology and education. Mrs. Gunn attended the Howard University School of Social Work on a two year fellowship from the National Institute of Mental Health, and, upon graduation, was employed as a social worker for the D.C. Superior Court. Mrs. Gunn's career in education includes working as the Director of Guidance at Archbishop Carroll High School. While employed there, she introduced career testing for the sophomore and junior classes. Each year of her tenure 97% of Carroll's seniors were accepted to college and received over two million dollars in scholarships and financial aid. On March 5, 1996, the Council of the District of Columbia honored Mrs. Gunn by presenting her with a Ceremonial Resolution. She was recognized for her significant educational and literary contributions. In 1993, Gay G. Gunn received a two-year appointment from the Board of Education of Montgomery Country, Maryland and served on the advisory Committee on Counseling and Guidance. She is listed in Marquis' Who's Who in the East, 1989/1990 and Who's Who in the World, 1991/1992. She has two sons and resides with her husband in Maryland, where she continues to celebrate what is strong, positive, and resilient about African American women and men.
