Reviewer Comments: The final installment in the Rose of York series concludes Sandra Worth’s trilogy of the life and loves of Richard III. In Fall From Grace, readers begin to understand the reasons for many of Richard’s actions throughout the previous books.
Richard has just recently assumed the throne from his nephew who disappeared. He feels he must take the throne for the good of England though he knows his actions will be questioned. He is dedicated to right the wrongs that have transpired so far. He feels compelled to bring a voice to the commoner and to bring justice to the realm. He grieves for what he has had to give up, though he resigns himself to his fate. Friendships and loyalty come under question; who do you trust and who is a “hanger-on”, and the like.
Chronicling the major accomplishments in Richard’s life; THE ROSE OF YORK: FALL FROM GRACE is a lengthy tome of vivid historical detail and vivid imagery. The author covers the King’s past and present; his successes and failures, his decisions and the reasons for them. All in all, and fine piece of historical fiction with all the pageantry and prose of 1400’s England, one that is sure to please many readers. Suspenseful, dramatic, tragic and absorbing best describe this book. This reader would suggest reading from the beginning of the series if you want to feel the full impact of Mallory’s England.
